Class Description:

‘An introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga – moving with awareness’

Helen will lead a short introductory class to the meditative practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, a form of Hatha yoga practice which has awareness of breath and movement as its main focus. The session will begin with a quiet guided breath awareness practice and warm up and then Helen will then guide you through a short flowing sequence.
The class will include an exploration of sun salutations, foundational postures and the importance of these in cultivating strength and stability. Helen will introduce the idea of how to move from the gross to the subtle, cultivating a deeper ‘felt sense’ of movement, supported by our breath and an awareness of the midline of the body. There will be a few simple seated postures and the session will finish with a short guided relaxation. Feel free to bring a shawl, blanket or anything that you’d like to have to make yourself comfortable.

Suitable for all levels of experience.
